The new corporate headquarters will include seven floors of office space, covered parking, outdoor patio areas, an onsite cafeteria, walking trails and a fitness center. Construction begins in August of next year. A dollar amount has not been disclosed. It is also unclear if HealthSouth received incentives from the city of Birmingham.
HealthSouth (NYSE: HLS) has been rapidly expanding its footprint throughout the U.S., but its activity in Alabama has been limited. CEO Jay Grinney said the relocation is a commitment to Birmingham.
"Maintaining HealthSouth's corporate headquarters in the City of Birmingham reaffirms our commitment to the continued growth of our city and the region," he said in a statement. "As we assessed relocation alternatives, we wanted new offices that would be conveniently located for the majority of our employees while providing an open and efficient work environment that would meet our current and future space needs. The new location meets these criteria."
The developer is Corporate Realty Development and the general contractor is Brasfield & Gorrie. The architect is M. Arthur Gensler Jr. & Associates. Brad Joneswith Cushman Wakefield and EGS Commercial Real Estate represented HealthSouth in the relocation of its headquarters.
